The French frigate Admiral Ronarc'h is the first vessel in the French Navy's new Frégate de Défense et d'Intervention (FDI) class, marking a significant step in the modernization of the fleet. As the lead ship of this cutting-edge class, the Admiral Ronarc'h is designed to address contemporary naval warfare challenges while maintaining versatility across a wide range of missions. The FDI class comprises five medium-sized frigates, each slightly smaller and more cost-effective than the French/Italian FREMM-class frigates, offering a balanced approach between capability and affordability.
Expected to enter service in 2025, the Admiral Ronarc'h boasts an advanced weapon system, starting with its vertical launching system (VLS), capable of deploying various missile systems to counter aerial, surface, and submarine threats. In addition to the VLS, the ship is equipped with two twin torpedo tubes for anti-submarine warfare, further enhancing its defensive and offensive capabilities.
